Holiday homes have been around for decades. They have helped make lasting memories between extended families and friends. These memories spark the next generation to follow the same tradition and holiday with their own families at the same destination. When you have visited a place for decades, you form an attachment. It is a place that becomes significant to you and something you want to share with your friends and your own family when you have one. There is a comfort holidaying in a place that you love and is familiar. The humble holiday home is an affordable way to holiday. We created WA HomeStay after years of using holiday homes and owning one ourselves. Below we list who book holiday homes and why:
We have been lucky enough to travel with our three children, both overseas and around Australia. Sometimes, especially in larger cities, hotels are the only option. However, you can only fit five people in the family rooms, when the youngest is under two. It also doesn’t help that our eldest boys, although still 8 and 9 are giants. So we now have an issue. The children are too old and big to be in the same room. All of sudden, hotel costs double. This is often not affordable for families. Holiday homes on the other hand allow the whole family to be together in the one house which is often cheaper.
There is usually, even room for the grandparents to stay too. This means you may be able to split the cost further. It also allows grandparents to experience the routine day to day stuff which they can often miss out on. Simple things like being able to pounce on Nana and Papa in the morning or fall asleep on them while watching a nighttime movie, are magic moments. Going on holidays together, means Nana and Papa can teach them how to catch the biggest fish or make the best sand castles. It brings joy and replicates the simplicity of past years, that can be missing in the current fast paced life. This is a huge reason for why we started WA HomeStay and why we are so passionate about holiday homes.
Another fantastic part to renting a holiday home, is the ability to feed your children when you want. Younger kids, in particular, do NOT like waiting for food. While in a hotel, you can often get some snacks for the room, but there is no where to prepare or store more substantial meals. You are often left to eat when the restaurants open. Children do not care about opening times. When they are hungry, they want to eat. In a holiday home, you can have a fridge adequately stocked and facilities to make the random piece of Vegemite toast when a child gets hangry. This also helps reduce the cost of your holiday. Spending all day eating at restaurants, adds up quickly. Often children just need a simple sandwich or a piece of fruit. Staying at a holiday home, means you can save money for the more important activities like the main tourist attractions.
The other big bonus for families is the space in a holiday home. In a hotel room, we are constantly checking the children and trying to get them to be more quiet as guests are literally right next door, above and below us. It is EXHAUSTING. The children aren’t being bad, they are just being kids. They need some space to burn off their energy. Holiday homes give them just that. Mum and Dad can enjoy a glass of wine, while the children play in the backyard or in the games room. Many holiday homes specifically cater for families, leaving board games and other things to make family life easy = happy days!
Whether it is two families sharing a house or a group of adults, holiday homes are a great way to come together. When you have kids, it is often hard to catch up with your best friends. Going away on holiday together can be a great way to reconnect. If the dynamics work, the children can often occupy themselves while the parents get to enjoy each others company. In the South West in particular, there are so many family friendly activities. You can organise a private tour around to family friendly wineries and breweries. The children get to play and explore while the parents enjoy some amazing wine and beer.
It’s not just families that getaway and use holiday homes. Friends, of all ages, enjoy spending time in holiday homes. Many people think of the young adults, letting loose for a weekend together. That happens and often they are mostly respectful while doing it. But it is not just the young adults who book holiday homes. Groups, whose average ages are 50+ often share homes for special weekends like jazz festivals and gourmet escapes. Other people who participate in sporting events, will share a holiday home to reduce the costs associated with travelling. Groups competing in marathons, trail runs, mountain bike racing, ocean swimming and obstacle courses all rent out holiday homes for their events. Coming together and having incidental contact in shared living spaces is special. It is not the same if you have to schedule meeting up for coffee or breakfast from seperate hotel rooms.
Location weddings are very popular. They bring a lot of business to local communities. However, asking guests to travel to a wedding, often increases guests costs significantly. To help with this, often holiday homes are used to house the guests and the bridal party. By renting out a holiday home, the bride and bridesmaids can all get ready together and enjoy the occasion. With hair and make up to be done, space is required. There are some phenomenal holiday homes listed on our site. You can enjoy ocean views, while sipping on champagne with your loved ones before walking down the aisle. No wonder holiday homes are so popular.
Pets are family for a lot of people. The idea of leaving them behind while going on holidays is unbearable. For others the cost of kennelling is too expensive. A lot of holiday homes have enclosed backyards and allow pets to stay. This means the pet pooch can come along and enjoy the dog beaches and other pet friendly activities. Although holiday homes will allow pets, most will require that they stay outside. It is important to check with the homeowners if you want your dog to be able to stay inside the house.
